To improve the system performance, we should make sure that the system does not contain unwanted files and all the files are sorted continuously in the physical area of disk .
There are other few methods to clean the unwanted files from system.
Windows 7 provides two disk maintenance options: DISK CLEANUP and DISK DEFRAGMENTATION.
Deleting TEMPORARY FILES:
- Temporary files in windows folder-
Step 1. Select START - RUN or press START + R .
Step 2. Type TEMP
Step 3. Click OK.
Step 4. Delete all the files in folder.
- Temporary files in User data folder-
Step 1. Select START - RUN or press START + R .
Step 2. Type &TEMP&
Step 3. Click OK.
Step 4. Delete all the files in folder.
DELETING FILES IN PREFETCH FOLDER
Prefetch folder contains the small files that contain the information, stored by windows which help it to speed up the start process when turned on again. If you empty the folder, Windows and your programs will take longer to open the next time you turn on your computer.But Prefetch when unattended can also slow down your system. This is because over time. So these files must be deleted when you feel system is slowing down.
Step 1. Opening a prefetch folder. C:\windows\prefetch
Step 2. Deleting all the files in prefetch folder.
If Disk and Storage devices are fragmented, it slows your computer . Disk Defragmenter
rearranges the fragmented data on disk and drives . This will increase the efficiency of disks
To use Defragmentation of disk-
Step 1. Click on the properties of respective disk, under TOOL tab click on DEFRAGMENT NOW .
Step 2. Select the particular drive and click on ANALYZE DISK . only the admin user have right to analyze disk.
Step 3. If you get 10% or more than 10% fragmented only then click on Defragment disk
otherwise no need to do it

DISK CLEANUP
Disk Cleanup is the tool for removing unwanted files such as temporary internet files,files in recycle bin, offline web pages, temporary files and tumpnails and setup log files.
To access Disk Cleanup utility
Step 1. Type Disk cleanup in the search box of start menu.
Step 2. Select Disk Cleanup.
Step 3. Select the drive you want to clean up.
Step 4. Select all the checkbox under files to delete.Step 5. click on OK.Step 6. This is
the additional step for windows drive
1. click on clean up system file
2. Select all the checkbox under files to delete.
